Hill Top Prep’s group counseling program, an integral component of our approach to helping students learn effectively, helps to facilitate the academic success of each of our students. All students are assigned to a group, which is comprised of approximately 6 to 8 students, and meets twice weekly throughout the school year. During these confidential group counseling sessions, students explore and develop coping skills for their individual learning styles and the day-to-day challenges of being an adolescent. All groups are led by masters or doctoral level clinicians.
Specifically designed to provide the support and guidance necessary for academic success, our program strives to address the related emotional issues that adolescents with learning disabilities often experience. Topics discussed include: social relationships, learning style, advocacy, self-esteem, self-advocacy, decision making, and conflict resolution.
The group counseling program at Hill Top Prep provides each of our students with support and guidance in understanding himself or herself and successfully meeting the challenges of school, adolescence, and beyond. The atmosphere of trust and the close relationships that develop in group inspire tremendous personal growth in each student. In addition to group, counseling staff members are available for periodic one-on-one contact with students, as well as communication with parents regarding student’s progress or other issues of concern. Our counseling staff also communicates regularly with outside mental health professionals to collaborate and provide consistent care.
